VA CALCULATOR

Estimate your combined VA rating.

VA ratings aren’t simply added together. Enter your individual disability ratings below to estimate your combined percentage, including the bilateral factor when applicable.

HOW YOUR RATINGS ADD UP

Add your individual ratings below.

How VA math works

Why 50% + 30% is not 80%.

Start with the highest

A 50% rating leaves you 50% 'whole' in the VA's model.

Apply the next rating to what is left

30% of the remaining 50 is 15, so your running total becomes 65%.

Round to the nearest 10

65% rounds up to a 70% combined rating on your award letter.

The bilateral factor

When a disability affects both arms, both legs, or paired skeletal muscles, the VA combines those ratings with each other first, adds 10% of that combined value, and only then combines the result with your other ratings. Check the “bilateral” box on a row above to include it - you need at least two bilateral conditions for the factor to apply.
